    Unhappy Handbrake lever

Has anyone suffered with the following:

When applying the handbrake - you push the button in (not ratchet it!) while pulling the lever up. Release button - the button stays in and handbrake lever drops down.

Push button a bit and it pops or slowly comes back out. (seems to be contolled by some kind of sticky grease)

Start again and the same thing happens!

In the end the only way to put the handbrake on is to ratchet it up.

    Next day it works fine

Is the handbrake sleeve fitted properly?

I've had that happen two or three times. Its almost as if the button take about 1/2 a second to come out, by which time the handbrake had dropped down with a clunk.

Its usually not a problem, I'm assuming it'll bed itself in eventully.

I thought it would bed in but it has got worse over time - ive checked to make sure its fitted correctly. Ive had it checked once under warranty to no avail - but as my car is in for some other stuff at the moment they are going to sort it out for me.

I just wondered if it was a common problem?

My handbrake had a clunk, think it was just the pads against the disk. My Vx dealer said they could not find the clunk but will book me in to replace the lever. I was not convinced it was the lever, looked on TIS 2000 and saw that to replace the lever the techs need to remove the exhaust, heatshield, half of the interior etc etc.... no thanks !

Good luck, does sound that your lever may be playing up though

well I have a new lever - works a treat now!

hmm will look under the car for evidence of exhaust removal!

no signs of any trim removal on the inside so they appear to have done a good job!

I had the opposite problem a while ago. I was engaging the handbrake; when I let go of the button it flew off at high speed. The noise it made when it hit whatever it hit scared the s**t out of me...
