Default What isnt my aircon doing ?

    Evening all,

Not sure if this is the right section so if it needs moving please feel free.

Had my air con regassed about 2 months ago, all was well it was like an ice box :-), 2 weeks ago I pulled up and turned the car off with the air con accidently still on. there was a sound like pressure releasing that went onf for approx 5 seconds.

I started the car back up and turned the air con off and the sound went.

    The problem :

Now when I put the air con on I can hear a sound behind the glove box the same sound as pressure releasing, the fans work fine, I can smell the aircon gas ( not the musty smell just a cool type of smell) but there is no air con out the vents.

Any ideas ? anyone had this problem ?

    Is the air con on?
Does the fan work on speed 4 only? - If so resistor pack has failed.

Fans work on all settings the only time I hear the pressure release sound is when I turn the aircon on but now its constant ... I normaly always turn it off about 2 miles before the end of my journeys to let the normal air dry out the ducts but on that one occasion i have not done that I seem to have broken / jammed something ....

Best way to explain it is its making the right noises, its making the right smells, thier is cold air somewhere but not out the vents and I have checked in the glove box its not cold in thier although It shouldnt be anyway but thats where this sound is coming from.

If the fan is working and no air is coming out of the vents, then I would say the recirculation flaps in the system have jammed - just a guess though.

    Default same problem

Mine is the same, the air system works fine, all speeds on fan until you turn on the air con, you get a funny noise like a fan/gas escaping but the air con works fine and is cold on all speeds settings, as soon as you turn of air con the noise stops.

is there a secondary fan in the dash for the air con or some other moving part other than the circulation flaps which seem to be ok which could be causing the noise.

i have heard some say it is because ther eis not enough gas in the system but if that was the case it would not work or be cold??

Well this morning same problem i have decided in the interest of science to try fix it the way i broke it so left the aircon on and turned the engine off when i got to work will see if a sudden jolt when I leave tonight will move whatever may be stuck before breaking out the screw drivers.

the raised trasmission tunnels on the vec-c's and Signum on the preface always seem to give a blast of cold air on turning left /right even with the heat on i used to notice this on my preface Signum..

also i would suspect that the recirc flap is stuck .. i NEVER turn my AC off its on all the time... and i dont have any issues on starting or stopping

    Fixed it :-)

Ok not very technical but started the car up, aircon came on .. or not really it was exactly the same as when I turned the engin off same pressure releasesound started etc.

Took a few left had turns it was infact colder turning left, decided to fiddle ( in the safest way) with all the settings eg different vent positions. recirc / non recirc and no differance.

Turned the hot / cold all the way hot and the sound stopped.
Turned it back to cold and my aircon is back with out the pressure release sound WHOO HOO

Wil see if it behaves itself for the rest of the week and let you know.
