    Default help i think ive broke the missus focus

    today i have had a right mere with the missus focus mk1, i have changed the cambelt, v belt and water pump and topped up with fresh coolent, but now when you start the engine the EML is on and the cooling fan kicks in straight away as soon as you start the engine
    if anyone has any comments then please let me know as im in the dog house.

    Thermostat? Temp Sensor? Have you knocked a plug or connected everything back up?

    Sound like an electrical connector not on properly!

    just going to check over the manual now but as far as i remember i disconnected 1 plug and -on battery, which are back on.
    the temp gauge isnt shooting up so im guessing the water pump is ok

    dont knwo if its any help to you ut i had a megane were the cooling fan would come on everytime the engine was started and it was cold aswell, turned out to e the temp sensor was told theres to signals in them one for the fan and one for the dash the dash signal was fine but the fan signal was dead , thats why it was on all the time

    If the ecu doesn`t get a temperature signal it will automatically send the fan on to protect the engine.

    i unclipped the cylinder head temp sensor so im going to check that?

    but surely the eml light is not connected to any of this?

    Dont know about the focus but on other cars i've had, when the battery has been disconnected for some time, the ECU has lost all it's settings and had to be reset by a dealer. One car would not even idle without loads of revs. I suspect your ECU needs setting up properly unless it's self learning like the vectra

    just went out and checked the C/H temp sensor and it was together but i hadnt pushed it enough to click, disconnected batt to clear EML. all sorted

    Just want to say a big thank you to all who replied and helping with your comments, (love this forum for that) and now im not in the dog house anymore............ for now
