    Default 2.0 Turbo Performance

Last car was a 53 plate SRi 2.0 Turbo. Current car is a 55 plate SRi 2.0 Turbo. I was always very pleased with performance of old car, but newer one seems to perform significantly better. From test driving current car it felt quicker both from stand still, and mid speed, and still does to this day...which is great........but why should it?

I really did expect it to feel just like the old car to drive, which I always thought performed well, so why should there be a difference? Were there any significant mechanical changes between models that could account for it?

I even wondered if new car had been tweaked in some way, but as it had only been a Main Dealer demo before me, it's very unlikely.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

they may well have upped the horses in the facelift, as they have done for the v6 diesels, 174PS for the prefacelift to 188PS (i think) for the facelifts.

do you know if the performance of the 'old' 2.0T and new 2.0T are different on paper?

    Main dealer demo, hmmm!!

Ever heard about the Skoda Octavia VRs Autocar tested that accidentally had an Audi TT engine map fitted!! If it hadn't been for those pesky kids they'd have got away with it too!

No, I haven't checked. Assumed they'd be the same, but will investigate. Thanks.

Nope, it's exactly the same Saab engine - same power etc. and 0-60 same at 8.1. So no reason for a facelift to be, or appear, quicker.

Mechanics talk about some engines being flat and others good. Theoretically if the same engine ( in the case the 2.0 turbo) is made the same from the same parts and specifications, then they all should give the same power/performance but I believe in the real world it is slightly different.

Some engines "feel" good whilst others feel "flat". I bet if we all drove those two cars we' would have have a different perspective on it.

Doesn't help you though, my meandering thoughts.

The difference in performance I'm talking about has also been noticed by passengers. Bloke at work thought I was driving a completely different motor. He was most impressed, and had been in other car many times.

When I put my foot down in newer car it gives that prickle at the back of the neck, and feels really quick. I had a 2.5 V6 Vectra a few cars back with a few performance mods, and I cant remember that feeling as quick.

Perhaps I'm just getting older & slower, so things are feeling quicker
