sounds like a CAN related issue,
but why the driver's door module would have an effect upon the instrument cluster is anyone's guess.
The link is very tenuous to say the least - via the Body Control Module.
Should be getting the error codes (if any) today via a code reader.... updates to follow.
£280 inc vat from vauxhall to fit and code a new CIM, plus the £32 for the "car pass".
had this problem on my 1.8 2 weeks ago. bricking it. Srayed ABS connector that connects to ECU behind engine bay fuse box and problem sorted, my dials were dropping whilst driving and battery light abs lights coming on on the dash. Thank god. was lucky i say. very lucky. would try and spray that with electronic contact spray and try and re seat it again, you never know.
Another ineresting development, had the dashboard to bits yesterday to make sure there were no loose wires.
Put it all back together again as everything semmed ok, and now the dipped beam and sidelights are on all the time the ignition is on.
Are the heaqdlights also controlled by the CIM? Or do I have a really gremlin filled car.
You haven't connected the plug to the back of the light switch properly. Had this happen on mine. Just remove it and make sure it's pushed firmly on, with the locking clip locked down.
If it's disconnected, the lights will stay ON for safety reasons. (What would you do if it was disconnected at night?)
HTH
Awesome, i'll try that this weekend.
Other than that i think i've got to bite the bullet and take her into the stealers.
I have searched high and low in the derby area and there are no auto electricians that will take this on, all have the same response of "may as well take it to vauxhall mate".
Been quoted £280 fitted from the local dealers, which is a sting!
Headlight issue solved, thanks tony it was exactly as you said.
Into vauxhall this morning for disgnostic the poss CIM change.
Updates to follow.....
All done, it was the actual speedo assembly itself that had gone in the end, nit the CIM unit.
The clocks are a slightly different style to those fitted preiously (think they are the more modern design), they have the same rev range and speed on them, so guess his doesn't matter really....
