Service Indicator

when i purchased my car one of the pre-requisites from me was that i wanted a full dealer service, which was done. This was completed and i have the stamp in my service book. However since about two days ago ive has the service indicator light on (see attached pic)

simple question .... how do i turn this off?

Very simple.
With the ignition off, press and hold the trip counter reset button on the speedo.
Still holdig it, turn the ignition on and hold for approx 10 seconds.thats how i do mine.

If it keeps coming back on then you have a problem. There was an issue with some Vec C's with this. Take it back to the dealer if it keeps doing it. If it's one of the ones affected, they will initially update the software. If it persists then the final fix is to replace the instrumentation! I think Graeme had this problem and ultimately had new instruments.

I'll dig out the Field Remedy (Vx solutions to known problems) for you. It will show whcih years/VIN numbers are affected.

It was me Duncan, and your right, the instument cluster will need replaced, or mine did, it only affected cars from march - may 2003 I think. Reseting the service light Boris style only helps for a short period because it does not reset the oil life indicator which also triggers the service light.

Boris, If you have to continually do yours sounds like you might have the same problem, mine drove me round the bend before I got it fixed , I had to involve VX Customer services as my dealer is as much use as a chocolate teapot ...

Ok, so Boris is partially right about resetting the service light. Does the long term solution involve taking it to the dealer and getting them to do it?

yep, it should be fixed under warranty, does your car fall into the affected age, also there could be warranty issues if you reset your service light, they could say you should have brought it in as there is a fault & reseting the service light made it worse ! Been there mate, I would go back and don`t take no for an answer .

I dont have to keep doing mine. I service mine to VX specs with genuine parts to keep the warranty up and keep the costs down. Just take it back for the important stuff.
