    Default £1500 bill for CDTI

Ok been having a few problems recently with the cdti 150.

Had the car at dealer today and diagnostics check. The following needs to be done:

    Cambelt change £278.64
    Rear bushes £136.36
    Front brake pads/discs £146.34
    EGR valve replacement £195.00
    Glowplugs £95.50
    Inlet manifold £666.69

So am getting them to do bushes as that is driving me mad, going to have to get them at some point to do inlet and save up.

Surely I could get brake pads/discs done cheaper, as well as glowplugs. Do I also really need a new cambelt? This along with water pump was done 15000 miles ago. Any help is much appreciated.

Disks and pads will cost you less than half that to buy and you can fit them yourself (remember to borrow or buy a wind back tool for the rears).

Which rear bushes? if it's the rear upper control arms, again these can be done easily enough yourself, they're fiddly but only two bolts (just a sod to get to one of them).

Glowplugs you can change yourself easily.

That'll save you a fair bit of the labour and the over priced parts cost.

what rear bushes are they ??????

cambelt doesnt need doing if last one was only 15000 miles ago
front pads and discs about £80 fitted

    EGR valve about £100 fitted
inlet manifold is about £180 for part and should be able to get it fitted for about £150ish

so id tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine and go to an independant garage and ask them for a quote

If you weren't so far away I'd do the fitting work for you for the disks/pads/upper control arms etc, but you'd probably spend the difference driving down here and back lol

You've mentioned "dealer", do you mean a main dealer? There's very little on that list that any run of the mill independent garage wouldn't be happy to do, and much of it can be done by a DIY hobbyist/mechanic, so unless you're trying to win a game of "look who can get the highest quote", you're throwing money away.

Get yourself trade club membership from this site and you can save even more, for example: front brake pads and disks for your car, bought from Vauxhall - £53.29 + VAT (P/N 93186297)

maybe there telling you of the cambelt because mileage wise it is coming up to the recommended interval, but not aware you have had it done early? definitely wont need doing if only done 15k ago

    Where was this coooky?

Did you buy the disks / pads yourself as I was thinking of grabbing some from ebay and getting someone I know local to fit. Would work out similar...
