    Question 3 ltr V6.... crap?

Ive gotta ask this question as this has been niggling me for a while...

At work we have a fleet of Astra 1.7 dervs for response vehicles. They take an absolute hammering, 24/7 and don't really seem to break that much considering. Now, on every borough there will be a few 'area' cars, ie 'fast' persuit vehicles. When I joined they were the older BMW 530d, not bad but not brilliant. We all then changed over to the Vectra 3.0 V6 derv. No joke, they were in the garage more than on the road (serious, no understatement!). Seemed that the eml used to come on literally on a daily basis, and the car go straight into limp mode. This got so bad that the Vectra was deemed not fit for purpose, and we all (all 32 boroughs in London) went back to BMW, although now they are 330d's (better).

So what is the score with the big vectra? are they just crap?

What are the faults they actually came off the road with?

Ouch, thats not good that they were branded as not fit for purpose. Do they take a hammering like the Astra's?

In 5 years and 120K miles I've only had the EML light on twice

The same issue also plagued Central Scotland Police and they got rid of their two 3.0 V6 CDTI within just 18 months
However, I believe the same issue also affected other Vectra C, when used for anything other than "chauffeur duty"

I've had mine for 40k miles now (since 101k last March), and not once has the EML come on for an engine fault. I only had it on for a cruise control fault.

The Met drive there cars to death, ive seen the state of the Met vectras and BMWs at auction, Compare them to Thames valley police and TVP cars are pristine,
The Met are animals and Shouldnt be allowed cars, Push bikes would suit them, then again id expect they would wreck them too.

I wonder if it couldn't handle the usage, or if the eml is set too sensitive? Not fit for purpose is a real black mark to put on a car. Heard rumours the original Freelanders also had probs.

My mate is a BMW tech and gets our Traffic BMWs in often, the BMWs are not as brilliant as people think, end of the day, police cars get driven hard so most will inevitibly break down...
