    Default M80 extension

I had the pleasure of driving up to Comrie today and for the first time in years, literally! I had a great wee drive, the average speed cameras are all gone and the traffic was able to take advantage of the improved conditions, shall I say????

On my return I spotted a 5 series marked car sitting on the side monitoring things but in general looks like the road is all but finished now well in advance as M8internet had predicted

The Average Speed Cameras were removed on Monday (18 July)

There is still quite a bit of work to be done
Some safety barriers are still incomplete, not fully installed, or missing

The northbound onramp from A80 on to the M73 is not yet complete
The southbound section from the A80 (what will be the M80) to the M73 is nearing completion and is probably about 10 days from completion
The southbound onramp from the A8011 is partially completed and is probably 5 days from completion
The nortbound offramp to the A8011 was due to open two weeks ago, but some errors were found which required correction, and should have opened yesterday but as at this morning was still closed

Rumour is that the speed limit signs will be installed or completed (as many are already installed but covered over) on Sunday (24 July)
It will take most of Sunday evening to remove all the restrictions and cones
The section around the M73 will then remain the only section restricted and 40mph from Monday (25 July)

It was worse prior to the upgrade commencing
The Auchenkilns Junction (removal of roundabout) helped many years ago, but just moved the problem to the Mollinsburn Junction
At rush hour the Mollinsburn Junction would be down to walking pace and ironically have queues back to Auchenkilns and Gartcosh
The Crow Wood Roundabout was also another bottle neck
Finally, if any vehicle brokedown then it would often cause gridlock
Although there are some additional lanes (and a partial crawler lane souhtbound at Castlecary), the new hard shoulders should also solve that problem
Now that both of these are gone it all seems very smooth

Also, the merges at the M73 and M80 are massive

It's not all 70mph though, slightly misleading news...
It is going to take two days to complete all the changes, started last night and will be completed by tomorrow night
40mph remains soutbound between Auchenkilns and Mollinsburn (as above, this section is not quite yet complete)
**Just noticed some news websites state northbound between Auhenkilns and M73, but looks like an error in the press release and only the Herald noticed and corrected put southbound**

Also, Motherwell TSU have allocated three patrol cars for the next 4 days
Presumably to enfore the 40mph section (especially overnight)

I will also need to check the speed limit between Junctions 2 and 4, as the original plan shows a short section of 60mph and the latest traffic order also includes this
On my last visit to the site the 60mph signs were also in place

Live Cameras have now been added to the Traffic Scotland website, for the M80 between J3 and J4, and M73 at J4
However, they are not yet operational but should be by next week

The 60mph signs have been removed completely
Where the 60mph signs were supposed to be there are now National Speed Limit signs, which is unusual for a Motorway as I would have expected 70mph signs
I suspect these will be replaced in due course
