Vectra 1.8 Dual Fuel does about 52mpg on petrol, 40mpg on LPG. But LPG is only 69p a litre. Also because the emissions figure for road tax purposes are based on the LPG figure if it's Vauxhall fitted, it's only £145 for 12 months.
OK, so the 1.8 Vectra isn't the quickest car in the range, but you can get a top spec pre-facelift Elite Dual Fuel for under £4000 if you look around. I've seen 2.0T SXIs with aftermarket LPG conversions for under £4000 too.
Might not be what you're after, but it's something to think about. Being able to drive twice as far for the same money has to have some attractions?
