Driving home from a family wedding at Haddo House last weekend, I had to do a quick stop to waken myself up a bit. Been a long weekend and was tired etc etc.
Anyway, found a purse lying in the street and picked it up, felt heavy and was quite a fashionable one from River Island, checked out the inside and it was a young lassie's, only about 18 or so and because it had her driving licence in it, went to her address to hand it back but she was not home. Tried to call but got the answering machine so left a message with my mobile number and said we were going to be local for a couple of hours as the Mrs wanted to do some shopping.
After shopping and getting some dinner there was still no sign of her calling so went to the local police station, told them we had found it and asked for a receipt for handing it in which was no problem.
Got home about 1 1/2 hours later and thought i would try calling again and she answered.
'Hi, my name is Rob. I found your purse in the street and tried to call earlier but only got your answering machine'
'Oh, yeah, I was just going to call you back'
'Oh, that was good timing then! We are 75 miles north of you but put your purse to the police station. We have a receipt here too saying it was handed in with your driving licence, various debit / credit cards and £174.90 in cash'
'Oh right. I'll go and get it then. See ya...'
Not one mention of the big 'T' word!
Raging! How many people would have pocketed the cash and either chucked the purse or handed it in empty??!! (Not meaning on here but in general!!)
I know what it is like to lose your wallet / purse and not get any of the contents back, let alone the cash in it!
So, what would you have done??!! Taken the money, chucked the purse? Taken cash handed purse in? Or would you have done what I did and hand the whole lot in? And not even get a 'Thanks'
