I was parked at my local sainsbury's car park with white line spaces ,

got in my side of car to drive , no car on my side ,

looked right no car , looked over left shoulder and reversed ,

AND .... scrape / minor crunch noise .

Where the hell did that van come from ?

My driver side front corner bumper had come into contact with side of van.

Luckily , i was only doing 2 or 3 miles an hour .

Yes , i should have done final look to the right too .

he must have come in as i went out .

BUT THIS IS NOT THE POINT OF THIS STORY .

I got out , went around to his driver door to do the honest thing ,

i.e. swap numbers , insurance details etc .

And here he is holding his shoulder , scrunched up eyes ,

( i didn't have an Oscar Award on me at the time )

He reckoned his shoulder was injured .

What sort of shoulder injury do you get from a 2 or 3 mile an hour knock from a car reversing .

Please see my photos , they are proof , i wasn't speeding out of the car park space .

he is a window cleaner and the whole van is dented .

so how would he claim for my small dent in the middle of all " his dents " .

i think he will forget the van claim and go straight for injury claim .

we swapped numbers and i am still waiting for his call .

he is local and if he does an injury claim against me and is still climbing ladders for his window cleaning business ,

I will have my camera ready ....

I was all prepared to do this honestly through insurers as i'm fully comp .

But how does his dirty playing effect me ?

PLEASE SEE PICTURES OF HIS VAN AND MY VECTRA .

the pictures speak for them selves , that i wasn't reversing quick enough for him to sustain shoulder injuries .

I'd honestly say you've done no damage to his vehicle and he's just after a payout. Few weeks in front of the telly at your expense maybe a holiday or an extension too?!

Unless you can provide evidence that he's not injured your insurance company will just roll over and pay out for the injury.

just tell the insurer he wasnt in the vehicle at the time, so there is no way he could of sustained an injury!

you need to spend the day following him and take pics of him working and then sugest to him to drop it as its plain and simple fraud if he makes a claim if the only witness were you and him then tell the insurance that mark on your car has allways been their and hes trying it on
do not admit anything to insurance company just tell them you dont know what hes talking about
as long as you dont admit to it you are not to blame let the insurances do the work to prove who did it

As i said above ....... he is taking the pee and chancing his luck with an injury claim ,

probably because he knows his van was dented all over before i met him and the van claim would probably render his van a write off ,

because the van is probably worth less than the cost of a full repray and all the dents pulled out .

so he'd only get a cheque for a few hundred quid , but he'd be vanless .

so the injury claim route , gets him cash and he keeps the van .

hope it all goes ok, that does look a mess on his van considering the lack of damage on yours.

however, we had a similer claim just before xmas. our car was parked, old codger not looking where he is going backs out of a space, hits from half way up our rear door right across the back wing, and actually pressed the wing in about an inch or more, was an awful mess, looked at his and the was a chip of paint off about quarter the size of a 5p coin lol.

any witnesses? if he is playing funny buggars, say he swung into the space and clipped your front bumper while you were parked (onyl kidding btw)

what gets my back up is damage to damage, yes, he claims as it was your fault and you say it is. injury claims just boil my **** when they are not genuine

On a public forum you're encouraging the OP to lie to his insurance company? C'mon fella, common sense please.

To the OP: if the other guy starts trying to claim for personal injuries, you're obliged by your insurance contract to co-operate with your insurance company and tell them everything. If you don't report the incident to them, you'll firstly get sent letters from his accident claim company telling you to pass the letters to your insurer and report the accident. When they don't hear back from you, they'll bypass you and approach your insurer directly. By law, your insurer isn't allowed to refuse to deal with the claim on the basis that they know nothing about it, so they'll start contacting you and ask why you didn't report it at the time. If you still ignore letters and phone calls from your insurer, they'll have to deal with the claim on the basis of the information they have - which will be the other party's version of events.

If you were both moving at the time, then I believe insurance will just go knock for knock on this.

I reversed into my driveway off of the highway and my neighbour reversed off their driveway, swung round and into the side of my car. now I can't travel sideways and I believe the highway code states you MUST check the highways is clear before entering.... insurance went knock for knock.

also,.. car parks are private land so I don't think the insurance will waste time and money proving fault

unfortunatley ........ the front of my car was parked up to the curb .

so if he swung in he would have hit my back bumper .

Thanks for the idea though .
