    Default annoying clunking handbrake

    Solved this one.

Everytime (ok not every time, but quite often), when i applied my handbrake, it would clunk as i pulled it.

i have since found out that it was due to the pads being worn.

Once they were replaced on the service the clunking stopped...

How old is your car and how many miles does it have

My handbrake makes a clunk noise, it has 13000 miles on clock

    its done 25000 miles.

At the service the rear pads were 80% worn and the fronts only 20%, so unless the fronts were changed before I got the car (unlikely as it was only 9 months old), the rears seem to wear quicker. I've done 10,000 miles since i got it...

it definately got worse as the pads wore down, and since they've been replaced its not clunked once for 2 weeks.

A new one on this clunking .... Vx could not replicate the clunk but suspect the handbrake lever, new one on order ... to be fitted under warranty

They did not look at the pads, only done 13,000 miles though

Hopefully this will sort the clunk.

This seems like good news ... but looking on TIS the techs need to remove the exhaust and heatshield to get access to fix the new handbrake lever ... now I am worried !.

Perhaps clunking wasn't too bad afterall ?

Please re-assure me ! I don't really want my car messed with too much by Vxl

Seriously, mine has been fine since they changed the pads. I didn't even tell them that the handbrake clunked.

The handbrake actually 'feels' different now, doesn't pull up as far and feels tighter.

you can easily check the pad thickness yourself, just have a gander through your alloys (easy on my SRi)

I'll re-check my service receipt to make sure they didn't re-adjust the lever or anything like that and let you know.
