    Default Laptops

Someone recommend me a laptop, now it only needs to be used for internet and have windows office on.

I'm currently using my work laptop because i tripped over the wire of our personal one and it crashed to the floor. No-one else is allowed to use my work laptop which is why i need to get a new one.

Don't want to spend a lot either.

A price range would be better than just saying dont want to spend a lot that could mean £50 max or £400 max

have you looked into getting the old one fixed? whats wrong with it? Did you break the screen or will it not boot or does it not power on at all?

Think the max budget would be £350 - £400 althought cheaper would be good too. Would prefer a 17" screen too as this is what i'm used to with the work laptop.

Would like Windows XP home edition and it has to be wi fi enabled. Celeron processors are crap or so i've heard, correct me if i'm wrong?

Can't get the old one fixed because the pins inside bent when i dropped it and when it's switched on, it will last a few minutes then just switch itself off.

for 350 -400 you will get a great laptop it will have to be a second hand one for it to be on xp as new ones are windows 7 yes stay clear of celeron and amd unless its amd 64 x2 or x4 (quad)
go for a intel core 2 duo or quad

These are my Laptop Brands in order of preference, Toshiba, IBM (Lenovo), HP, Dell .. One of many reasons why corporations usually only buy these brands, fantastic durability.. Unlike other fancy looking brands, a better stronger build quality means these 4 brands are more likely to survive a bit of abuse during their life.. My Toshiba is not pretty, but its solid, one of its great design features is that a cup of water spilt on the keyboard would not be a problem, the top of the laptop is sealed from the rest of the laptop.. They even say it would survive being held under a running tap, I havnt tested this myself... lol

Windows XP or Windows 7 (cause yea, Vista isnt worth talking about) Well, Windows 7 is superb.. No point in sticking with XP unless its a machine thats say over 4 years old.. Windows 7 is stable, fast and very easy & inuitive to use..

Personally, I'd pick a Dell or an Acer, if I wanted a well built, reasonably priced laptop, with a reasonable spec.

If your not already with someone like Quidco.com or topcashback.co.uk, have a look, there are a lot of deals for laptop and electronics manufacturers/retailers, offering money off coupons, free delivery, upgrades and cashback.

Have a look at www.dell.co.uk/outlet for some discount/refurb bargains too.
