Default alot more mpg from non supermarket fuel.

Does anyone else find this? If i put in 25 quid supermarket petrol i get about 80 mile! But if i use shell petrol i can get 115 mile for 25 quid! Thats 35 mile more for ya money! Why is this? Fuel qualitys at different garages?? Also can you use redex as a one off treatment or do you need to use it all time to gain better mpg? Thanks

Mine's diesel, I find it tends to run better on V power, if I put anything else in, I use redex.

im so glad someone else has worked this out
ive noticed this for a while now ever since my local shell was closed where i use to put 20-25 in to go blackpool to manchester and backwhen i had my bmw with shell fuel then i started using tesco but ended up using 25-30 for the same jurney
i never noticed it on the range part as im sure its the same amount of fuel it just didnt go down as fast

I worked as a facilities manager for a well knowm service station for 2 years and did a course with shell. We was told Supermarket fuel is purchased cheaper as its grade is much lower than the fuel that goes to big companies like shell/bp etc. It was explained to us as "the bottom of the barrell" It may have the same octane rating but is of lower quality.
I only run my car on tesco mommentum99 and vpower, but ive heard alot of people say they get more miles from using shells fuelsave unleaded/diesel.

but ... normally big brand petrol is a little more expensive for each litre , compared to cheap supermarket fuel .

so is the extra few pennies on the big brand fuel really getting you that much more on each fill up ?

or do you buy the big brand fuel for the ( alleged better ) quality ?

    ================================================== =========

on a different note , when we do our family shopping at the big supermarkets , i normally buy sainsbury's own , asda's own , tesco's own or morrison's own ,

but for some reason , i try to keep away from Sainsbury own fuel , asda own fuel , tesco own fuel and morrison's own fuel .

maybe the rumours and myths over the years have stuck in my brain ,

That supermarkets fuel is made with cheaper ingredients , has additives to stretch the fuel out , and the funniest one ....

Supermarket petrol is watered down ,

Well ......................... maybe not with water .... l.o.l.

Filling up with the exact same tender 25 quid at shell and 25quid few day later at a supermarket, the difference is 35 miles between the fuels. Regardless of price per litre, even if shell is 1pence more expensive per litre its still taking you further!

I have noticed about a 2-3mpg difference between Morrisons and Shell myself, after this I decided it is worth the extra money where needed and stick to fuel-saver from Shell where I can.

All I ever put in mine is shell fuelsave diesel but a month or so back I put a full tank of Morrisons fuel in because I could get 6p off per litre.

The main thing I noticed between the fuels was the overalll performance of the car. It didn't feel as smooth as normal and didn't have as much pull lower down. Also seemed slightly louder??

I put a full tank of shell in her again on Saturday and all is back to normal, apart from the pocket which is 70£ lighter!
