Default CV Boot on the 2.2DTI

The CV boot next to the gear box has ripped and come apart. I've never changed one before. Is this whats called an INNER CV BOOT? I'm assuming the outer CV boot is the one behind the brake disc? I might as well change that one whilst I'm there as I'm assuming I have to take it off to slide the knackered boot off the drive shaft and replace with a new one.

I've looked on ebay but not sure what to get. Can someone show me ehat I need and give me some tips?

    Thanks :-)

Tbh i'd inspect the outer one before just changing it. It always seems to be the inners that go while the outers are fine.

It's a fairly straight forward job if your handy with the spanners though. Taking the inner cv off the driveshaft can be a bit of a fiddle and it's really messy but nothing too bad

Think it was £80 it might of been £60 but cant remember i thought it was a good price tbh esp if you only have a busy road to try and do repairs
I did the outer one myself and that was a pig trying to get the circlip

    EDIT

    It was £95 lol

innes , if your gonna do the job yourself i have a really big bit of advice for you

make sure you can undo the gearbox fill plug , because if you remove the driveshaft you will lose your gearbox oil and if you can undo the fill plug on top of the gearbox you are in deep doo doo !!!!

the job isnt that bad to do to be honest and it is a lot easier with the driveshaft on a bench

i used these people for my siggy cv gaitors

    www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk

they have a shop on ebay and they cost about £8 all in

Do I have to remove the drive shaft then? I thought I could just dosconnect the wheel assembly from the shaft. Cut or slide off the old Boot and slide on a new one. I havent had a proper look at the whole assembly so not sure if thats doable thats why I thought I'd ask the best way of doing it. Unfortunatly there isnt a how2 :-(

I used a universal split Cv Boot on mine (sacrilege I know) but it only cost me £12 plus one and a half hrs of my time.

Cut the old one off removed the metal clips then cleaned all of the grease off so it was spanking clean. I then cut the boot to the correct size and glued the joint 1.5 cm at a time. The glue is fantastic stuff it seems to melt the rubber together to give a fantastic joint. Once it was all glued It was left to stand for 20 mins then packed up with grease and slipped the boot into position. I fitted the clips and crimped tight. Job done and still going strong.

My car has just passed its MOT with no work needed and no advisories. Happy days
