Just done this... I bought the wiper wheel box assembly... went to fit it (doesnt look too complicated) but I couldnt get the dam wiper arms off the spindles!! doh...
Anyway, seems to be holding ok so far.
Any idea how to get the wiper arms off the spindle?
Loosen the nut until the top is flush with the spindle, then whilst applying lifting pressure trying to pull the arm up and off the spindle, give the nut/spindle top a sharp tap with a hammer.....Don't hit it too hard, or you'll break something....
good job that
mine went a few mth ago and when i opened the panel someone had already done the same thing before me and the tie wraps had slipped up the bar so it was easy as i could get the idea put a couple more on and its been great ever since no problems
I had this problem, searched internet found this forum, joined so I could see pictures and fixed it thanks fella!
my wiper linkage broke cost me 90 pounds from vauxhall common fault on vectra c
Thanks for this guide, you just saved me more cash :-)
stopped working in very heavy rain last night 100 miles from home so was well angry.
The whole job only took 10 minutes :-)
hi all
just had same problem and fixed it using a innertube .. i cut the tube about 6 inches and folded it in on its self so it was doubled up .
then went out to car took top and bottom link arms off and fitted them into the innertube , fitted the arms back on and they work great as now the inner tube is like a 3 inch wide rubber band holding them together ,
working great for now
Just had both wipers pack up at 3am in the pouring rain - Nice!
I checked under the scuttle panel and could see the bottom link rod had come off the ball joint and it popped back on ok so I carried on driving and managed about 2 miles before it fell off again! Luckily I had 2 cable ties in my toolkit so I put one round the bottom rod and one round the top and liked them together as there seemed to be too much movement between the two rods to bind them together with one tie. Anyway, I carried on driving for another 2 hours and it's been fine so far.
Got home, did a search and found this thread so must have been lucky to have the cable ties with me when it happened
BTW mine is a facelift, so don't be fooled into thinking vauhall improved anything![]()
Mine went last week & when I looked, someone had already done the same thing before me, cable ties had given up.
Done right, looks like the "cable tie fix" lasts for years. Got some replacement arms from ebay & did the job yesterday.
****** of a job to do, hope it's fixed for good now.
