Thumbs up Thank you forum but...

    Morning all!

Hope someone can help me here. I've just treated myself to a 2005 (facelift) Vectra C 19 CDTI SRI 150 just yesterday and I love it already! There's is however a host of issues with it, all common as you like and I have researched the forum and solved them all.... Except this one! The fuel gauge is reading wrong, I filled it to the brim and the gauge only reads half. After 20 mins of constant driven I see the dash gauge slowly rise to full!? But now the range reckons I have 653 miles left remaining! Not even this beauty can do that surley!?
From what I can read it's the fuel sender unit? But where is it and is it easy to replace on the hatchback?

Thanks for all the help so far this forum has solved me so many issues already!

the sender unit will be under an inspection panel under the back seat

its usually a black plastic cover held in by a few screws
then when this is removed you can see the top of the sender which is usually held in place by a plastic ring which you have to undo by using a hammer and punch ( youll see what i mean when you see it) to knock it round

but be careful undoing it with a hammer and punch as they can easily be knocked out of shape and will not reseal again when you try and put it back.(not a problem if you are replacing it) There is a special tool to remove the sender or you could easily fabricate something to do the job.

653 can be achieved with this engine if you drive it carefully. Mine is highly modified and still returns 48mpg and 560 ish to a tank. When my wife drives it she can get over 600 to the tank
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

Oh really!? Maybe I'll give the sender a bit of a chance then. The last car had the same size tank and did about 350ish to the tank! But then I guess that's a straight BMW 6 2.5 24v does to you!

Thanks for the speedy replies guys I'll just take it as it comes and update the thread in a couple of weeks.
