Default Carb Cleaner / Inlet Cleaner 150 CDTI

    Guys,

Had the Inlet changed about a year ago on my CDTI150 - and its been recommened to me that on every service I spray some 'cleaning' product through the air intake / Inlet and clean out all the junk that may build up in the inlet to keep it fresh.

So - what product do people use? Anything recommended?

    Cheers

I think I'd avoid the second one as it seems for petrol engines but I may be being over sensitive?

That EGR 3 is what I used, that link is cheaper than I paid as well.

Sprayed mine directly into the throttle body, after removing air pipe.

I removed the EGR and throttle body first, cleaned them and refitted, then used the above to clean the rest, hopefully!

I have never really run an engine after a physical clean where debris might be loose I often fear for valve seats but I am tempted to try a carb cleaner spray and a bottle brush followed by a hoover??? thinking out loud here I might be off my trolley thinking this,,,,,,

Wynns intake / carb cleaner about £5 and thats a halfords price so probably cheaper else were.

Rather than runing the car and spraying remove the boost sensor, fill a coke bottle cap with some carb cleaner and let the end soak.

Take the intercooler pipe off the intake, ignition to position 2 so the butterfly opens.
spray 3 squirts either side of the butterfly ( just for evenness) leave to soak for 30 mins.

    Reconnect pipe, refit boost sensor.
spray a few squirts into the intercooler ( intake side ).

Start car with slight throttle applied and wait for the smoke to clear :-)

I brought some wynns intake / carb cleaner from halfords to clean my EGR valve and throttle body over the weekend. Did the EGR ok but couldn't get the throttle body off, I needed an allen key tool to undo the bolts, I have a set of allen keys (set you normally get for your bike) but I don't think they are designed for this kind of work didn't want to snap them. So that had to stay on for now. After putting the EGR back in and starting up i tried to spray the inlet but I think I used nearly the whole tin on the EGR as the spray was really poor and hardly anything came out. Looks like I need to buy some more cleaner

Try a T-27 Torx head key that fitted my TB fine
