Default Vectra cdti 150 won't start

Hi guys new here been reading some posts and thought might aswell join and get these guys opinions.

I had started to notice some White smoke on startup over the last few weeks was nothing major then one day sitting at traffic lights I get this violent juddering. The lights changed and car seemed to be fine after that. Next morning went out to go to work car was really hard to turn over but did with White smoke and the car doing this violent judder again after bout a minute car drove fine. Then started with a slight judder the rest off the day.day 2 the car really struggled to start but started this time with the same symptoms as the day before and White smoke coming from under the bonnet driver side cleared up after a minute again. Decided I would service the car after work. Put in forte engine cleaner let it tick over for 40 mins turned car off. Then it's never started again.

So put it into a vauxhall specialist there was no codes showing on the comp. They then said the woodroof key was worn and had allowed the timing to slip 4 teeth and the gear had to be changed I said go ahead the next day I got a call saying there was a woodroof on the crank and needed to replace that to get the timing spot on so next day speaks to the mechanic and he says all the timing is sorted but the car still doesn't start. He said it's a bank holiday and will look at it on Tuesday again but didn't know why it hadn't started. Anybody else have this problem?

The 1.9 cdti models have an electrically powered pump in the fuel tank that sends fuel to the engine driven pump, if you listen carefully you should be able to hear this pump when you switch on the ignition. If you have changed the fuel filter you should have been able to hear the pump pushing fuel to the front of the car to prime the filter when you switched on the ignition.

Yeah mate there is 300lb or whatever it's meant to be in the common rail. What's the chances of it bending valves even tho it was idle? My pal sprayed easy start in the air filter and it started but soon as he stopped the car stopped this was before it went to the garage. Think cam followers?

Hi again. I found the info below and thought that you might like to see it as you have said that there is 300lb or so pressure in the fuel rail. I had read in the past that common rail diesels had 1000s of pounds pressure in the rail so had a little search and came across this. Maybe its the engine mounted pump thats at fault.

Common rail direct fuel injection is a modern variant of direct fuel injection system for petrol and diesel engines.

    Common rail fuel injector

On diesel engines, it features a high-pressure (over 1,000 bar/15,000 psi) fuel rail feeding individual solenoid valves, as opposed to low-pressure fuel pump feeding unit injectors (Pumpe/Düse or pump nozzles). Third-generation common rail diesels now feature piezoelectric injectors for increased precision, with fuel pressures up to 1,800 bar/26,000 psi

Cheers mate I've been told the pressure is fine. I'm not a really mechanically minded person so been trying to read bout it. The only thing I've been thinking is that the timing being out would have done valve damage but hoping it's just popped the cam followers. If the valves are damaged is it cheaper to buy a recon cyclinder head?

Not seen a Z19DTH bend valves yet.

They ones I have done and seen just break the rockers (As they are designed to do)

Going up the garage today when I finish work. The boss of the garage is dealing with my car from today. Was a master technician in vauxhall for years so here's hoping he says that it's just popped the rockers. There bout £5 each ain't they.

    Thanks bigmac

Just spoke to garage there I had told them that I had been getting my diesel cheap but it was genuine diesel. They took a sample out the tank and they reckon it's not the case and are going to drain the tank out. And stick a gallon of diesel in and try that.

OK I'm a bit cynical of garages trying to pull the wool and take us punters for muppets, but.....
If your timing's out, your timing's out.
If the woodruf key's shagged, it's shagged.
Putting fresh diesel in is not going to change either of those things.
I have been in a similar situation regarding questionable diesel *ahem* with my truck and clogged my fuel filter. It would not rev and missed like mad as soon as I put my foot down - fuel contaminated with water and clogged the filter! Just a thought!
