    Default Sky Dish help

    Chaps,

    I need some help please.

I have sky but only as freesat.

Whenever it rains I suffer really badly to get a signal.

In fact even a few light spits of rain and it starts to say couldnt find channel/signal.

    What could this be?

I have tried a different box and the same thing....is it the LNB?

It could be alignment of the dish is out. If your box has a signal strength indicator its quite easly realigned but easier with a signal strength meter from Maplin. Wipe any crud from the front of LNB first.

As above go into settings menu and check signal strength when it's dry, it should be at least 3/4 full, if not either adjust the dish manually with somebody watching the signal it get a signal checker from maplins or eBay

Ditto above, but also look for any trees / branches nearby. I get the same problem when it rains, the branches get wet and heavy and get in the way of the dish. Worse if the dish is slightly out of alignment. With the branches removed, mine will still give a good pic in fairly bad rain!

If I open the left one (nearest the dish) of the three front windows on our house it partially blocks the dish and causes issues, it's amazing how sensitive they are, look for anything blocking it that may be weakening the signal, but yeah probably just wants re-aligning, high winds can knock it out of alignment very easily.

I brought one of these satellite finder kits, loads on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SATELLITE-FIND...item519a1a640a

and installed sky + on my parents place and improved their signal, they are right in the flight path of heathrow so nearly everytime a plane went by the picture would break up.

I then also installed one of these

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

you can have one on each cable, but I only put it on one, brought their signal strength from about 65% to 95%.

2 very cheap ways to boosting your signal and much cheaper than calling out a sky engineer.

    Hope this helps, chris

    Hi Chris,
Slightly delayed reply but I have just bought one of those Sat Finders.
Will see how I get on.
    Is it easy to use?
    Thanks, G.

phew .... read the thread title and thought you were planning a retrofit onto the Signum ...

agreed with Ian the slightest thing on signal strength can kick it off even a tree now blooming after all the rain we have had !!
