Default VAUXHALL INSIGNIA 2.0 CDTi [160] Diesel Sports Tourer

Ok lads Iím hoping some of you could answer a shed load of questions please? I currently own a í55 reg Signum 3.0CDTi (184bhp) and am looking to be changing soon. I like the look of the Insignia 2.0 CDTi (160) Diesel Sports Tourer. Can anyone please help with the following; does anyone actually own one of these and would they recommend one to me? What are they like performance wise? Whatís the ride like? What sort of economy can I expect and whatís the road tax per year? Also if I wanted to are these engines up for chipping/tuning or not? I left my Signum well alone on that score after reading advice from people on here saying the 184bhp engine does not like being tuned/chipped. One last thing while itís in my head would this model be up to the job of towing a caravan? Thanks a lot.

There are a lot of variants of the 2.0 diesel insiginia, with differing emissions and thus tax levels.

    At the last count: 130ps, 130ps auto, 160ps, 160ps auto, 130ps ecoflex, 160ps ecoflex, 160ps 4x4, 160ps 4x4 auto, 160ps 4x4 Start/stop, 130ps ecoflex start/stop, 160ps ecoflex start/stop.

Tourers are also slightly higher emissions than hatch/saloon, and bigger wheels affect it to.

New cars would be from first year free, £30/yr for tax, for ecoflex start/stop models to £190/yr for a 4x4 auto. Early 160ps manuals would be about £165/yr.

Later diesels were improved in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), so quieter and also should be better on fuel.

Book figures are around 55mpg, but owner averages range from high 30's to mid 40's mostly. depends more on the weight of your right foot and what kind of driving profile you do - town, a-road or motorway.

Watch out for spec levels too, as earlier cars had more goodies as std, later ones, they started stripping them out - SRI's now have manual rear windows with elec ones a £190 option, as an example.

have a look on www.vauxhallproductforum.co.uk. There is a brochure and price guide archive so you should be able to see what your prospective car should have, depending on age.

As for performance and ride - you need a test drive - opinions differ widly.

Thanks Jaffatubes that was very helpful. I know there's a lot of caravan haters out there but each to their own eh, would the tourer be up to the job for towing i'm wondering?

I don't see why not. The Astra Sports Tourer 2.0 diesel was one of the best tow cars in some recent Caravan awards magazine I think.

Apologies - it was the 1.7 diesel Astra Tourer - won best Green Towcar at Practical Caravan magazine.
