    Hi all,

My fiancée has bought me the Skills for Life package for my birthday and I am wondering what the observations/course/test are like? Anyone on here done it before and can you offer any advice?

    Cheers,

    George

I did way back in 1995ish its a pretty much straight forward course envolving lots and lots of common sence. Your skill level in motor vehicle control and forward observation/reading the road ahead will be observed closely. There is a "cockpit drill" that must be practiced and used whilst the observers are in your car teaching you "advanced driving". The test is straight forward and involves driving to the higher standards what you have been taught over the recent weeks, and there will be a period of time during the test normally about half hour where you have to give "verbal accounts" of your driving. The examiner is normally a Police class one driving instructor which normally would be training Police officers to drive police vehicles. Go for it you won,t regret it!!!.....

Just a little update for those that have never done advanced driver training. I have just completed my third lesson and my observer is putting me forward for the test (which will probably be towards the end of September). The examiner is a Police Sergeant, but was military before that. Before starting the lessons, my road rage was uncontrollable and almost anything that other drivers did wrong (what I thought was wrong) would instantly make me rant! However, since doing the advanced driving, my road rage has ceased to exist and I've found that I'm telling the fiancée to calm down (in the passenger seat). The other benefit is of course using less fuel. Before I was very heavy footed (with only 400ish from a tank), but now I'm seeing at least 500 miles (majority city driving).

Skills for life? Isn't that things like how to use a telephone etc that "special" people do at college? Is she trying to tell you something?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
