    Default 1.9td 16v 5th and 6th gear not working

Hi something really odd is happening, gears 1-4 fine, Change to 5th and the engine only appears to fire on a couple of cylinders and all the power goes, regardless of revs, any ideas, same for 6th, ok if I floor it though, any ideas?

When do you go into 5th and 6th, at what speeds?

About 60 for 5th, and 6th at 70, but even if I red line 4th, and then change to 5th so the revs are a lot higher, it still does it.

    Does the flywheel rattle?
Is the car's low down power affected in anyway?

Hi, no rattle, and seems to be down on power through the rev range. It's just like its not firing on all cylinders. It was subtle at first, I almost thought it was my imagination, then the last couple of days its just got worse. As long as I don't use 5th and 6th its fine. Occasionally they will work.

Haven't had the codes done yet as its only just started doing it. It's an 08 plate, with 43000 miles on

I would say it's affecting all gears, it's just 5th and 6th gears will be more noticable as they make the engine work harder. Check the vacuum hoses first. If you lift the vanity cover off of the engine, and look directly down on top it, you will notice two hoses on the bottom right near the grille. They have a tendancy to split. These vacuum hoses are what the engine uses to operate the turbo. So if there's a leak you will have no turbo.

I wouldn't be surprised if the old EGR valve problem is afoot here either.
