Default 2.2DTi loss of power, whooshing noise and excessive smoke

Today the engine management light came on and the car went into limp mode. Its done this before and a quick off on on of the ignition cleared the light and restored power.

I did the same off and on with the ignition today and the fault cleared, but it came back again and again. Roughly ten times in total.

The fault happens after doing a slow speed for a good few miles and then speeding up.

I've also noticed that when not in limp mode there is still a noticable loss in power and also a whoosing noise on hard acceleration. There is also more smoke than usual. Revving the car when standing still produces alot of black smoke. This has never happened before today.

I'm thinking that an intercooler pipe or the intercooler itself is stuffed.

I've popped the bonnet and held the air pipes whilst the car is revved and they balloon up quite a bit.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Have found the problem lol. I took the engine cover off and found this. (I poked the ratchet through to show the hole).

I'll have to get another pipe it seems.

Use duck tape to tape it up for now until you get a new one.

I was travelling home from a work visit to Catterick Garrison at the time with two colleagues with me. Luckily we got back with minimal fuss. It was the smoke that worried me the most to be honest.

I've seen a few for sale on ebay, but I'm not willing to pay that much. I've been in touch with a scrappy up the road from myself that have a 2.0DTi in so hopefully I can swipe the one from that.
