    Default 2004 2.2 16v possible missfire issue......

Right, this problem has only just occured within the last 2 days.

Basically, when driving along at say 30-40mph,in a higher gear (under say 2000rpm), if i put my foot down, the car seems to missfire badly. If i feed the power in slowly its fine.Even at 60mph in 5th gear, plant the foot down,it does the same.Once its over 2.5k rpm it clears, picks up,and goes smooth all the way.Only happens under load.

No engine management lights on.But i think its possibly because its not happening for long enough, for it to log the problem.

Car is a 2004 Vectra with the Z22YH engine.

Does it sound coilpack related,or something even worse.

Sounds like the Z22YH's main fault mate, the HP pump and reg. The Reg can be done under a recall, and if you have a Siemens pump and it hasn't failed it will do, i'll put money on it. However if you have a Continental one fitted then they dont fail. My money's on your fuel pump, you'll be looking at the best part of £240 to buy and fit it yourself. LINKY But get it plugged in first just to make sure.

The pump was changed in 2008 @110k.a siemens pump was fitted.all done by Vauxhall.car is now on 128k with full service history.whats the chances of vauxhall footing the bill if the pump is at fault?also today i disconnected the afm,and the car still runs the same.whats the chances of that being at fault?

Also will opcom pick up the fault if it is the pump?

Car is booked in to Vauxhall on Wednesday to have the recals done on the FPR and handbrake switch.

After alot of searching on here and google etc, most have come to the conclusion that the spanner light comes on when the HPFP is at fault.None of my dash lights have come on at all under the conditions, but the problem is still theyr. Also it hasn't once cut out when driving or struggled to start.

Im i hoping too much that its just the FPR thats at fault??

Im pretty gutted tbh as i have wanted a Vectra C for ages (since driving my old mans old C Gsi), but they just seem to be riddled with problems (found a snapped rear spring yesterday).

Does sound like fuel pump mine went last month and thinking back was problems building up to it. couple of times it felt like wasnt enough power followed by backfires then eventually light came on and limp home mode. plugged into opcom and tech 2 showing no faults recorded. changed pump "continental" literary 10 minute job and now car runs like a dream better than ever.

Got a mate to stick Opcom on the car and it came back as a swirl valve fault.Cleared the codes, took it for a drive, put the Opcom back on and no fault codes were stored again.Car was still behaving like before.

When revving the car while stationary, the rod for the swirl valves seems to be jerky at low revs, but at high revs it moves free and the car revs fine. Its just when giving it light throttle,on and off,it has the problem.Same with driving the car,low revs its hesitent, but once its up over 2k rpm it revs clean all the way to the limiter. No loss of power either once its going.

    Any ideas??

Also for piece of mind,we done a fuel pressure test via the Opcom and it was over 5000kPa at idle.

Right, stripped the car down 2night and found the problem.

The swirl flaps linkage rod,has 4 wee ball bearing type sockets inside, which the swirl flaps are attached to.Well the far left ball bearing socket was missing. So when the car was at part throttle,3 of the flaps were opening a tad more than the end 1.So when giving it more throttle, the metal rod that comes off the flap, was catching on the plastic connecting rod letting it open the same amount as the other 3,which is when the car ran fine.

So hopefully Vauxhall can supply just the connecting rod on its own.
