    Default 2.2 direct remap ?

Hi boys I've been told a few times now that it's not worth getting my 2.2 direct remmaped due to cost and not a big gain. Anyway I have received a email today from a company that says that if I send him my ECU via post he will remap it and I will gain a extra 30bhp all for £160 and I'll have it back the next day ? What do you guys think is it worth it and would you trust sending your ECU off ? Thanks

30bhp from just a map on a normally aspirated 2.2 (which is a nightmare to get extra power of without spending quite a lot of money on it) is pretty unlikely to be honest. Ask him if he'll do a refund if those figures aren't reached

Ok thanks for the advice this is the eBay response he sent me it looks like he has very

    Hi,

Yes it will be possible, the gain will be about 30bhp so it's worthwhile doing.

    The cost would be £160.

Let me know if you Want it doing and I will send you my address. Thanks

Well you being happy and you getting 30bhp are two totally different things. A re-map WILL give you an increase in power that you'd notice, but no way in hell will you get 30bhp from it. So only you can decide really what you want to do.

You've seen his website I assume? Contact details on it http://www.map-tech.co.uk/

Gotta be honest and say it doesn't fill me with confidence and I wouldn't use them personally and would (infact did) pay for the more expensive and better reputation map but it's your car

As Ian says - NA cars will give around 10% increase if mapped; max I'd say anyway.

The line that stands out to me is:

'the gain will be about 30bhp so it's worthwhile doing.'

About 30bhp isn't 30bhp, and to some people - especially people after contents of your wallet - 'about' could be 10bhp. You have no guarantee IMHO.

That goes for anyone claiming this. Are they changing cam profiles too? That would give you an increase - as claimed roughly I'd say.

I would give this a wide berth tbh... there's no way any mapper will get 30bhp increase on any na motor with a map alone.
Any propper tuner will even tell you this & not feed you some waffle just to make a sale
