Rotary advice

Ok, so I have had a DA for a while and recently saw someone using a rotary. I couldn't believe how much faster it was than the DA.

So are they worth it? I know they are more risky but is it easy to damage the paint if used correctly?

I guess I can use the same pads and stuff, just need a new backing plate to match.

Anyone got both?

Its very easy to damage paint with a rotary as it will build up heat loads quicker.

Do you have one? have you tried it?

I realise this and have watched the vids on DW. TBh watching them, I was thinking that as long as you keep an eye on the temperature and keep it moving across the panel then the risk is kept to a minimum.

i got a rotary as long as you keep it moving and not work 1 panel for to long they are fine just got to extra carefull with them

We have a bodyshop next to where I work.

They let me have a play on an old panel and I took the paint off on the bump strip and crease in the door in about 10 seconds.

Thats what I was thinking. have you ever left marring or anything? Noticed any damaged?

Pad/polish combo????

What pads/polish did you use? I cannot imagine that being careful and after using a DA that doing what you say you did in 10 seconds is all that easy. I have watched videos where its taken ages in one section to burn the paint/pad.

vauxhall paint is soft so im told . ive just bought some new hex pads and was told that the green one should be used for heavy compounding and the white one as a rule is the one you will use most ,as it will compound lightly but also polish . im still using a da but still playing with the rotary that ive also got . khalid

The sealey rotary i just bought has 6 different speed settings..hopefully idiot proof.

I've been using the orange polishing and red finishing elite car care pads.

my da just seems to take ages. Maybe a harsher pad or polish would be a better option?

Rotary's are fine mate. As said keep the speeds down, keep it moving but the big thing I find is with a DA, when you hit an edge you have more time to move off before you strike through, but with a rotary they can strike through very easily on an edge as the pad spins in the same place.
