    Default Push Start Button

As the title, has anyone fitted a push start button to their Vectra?

If they have, how hard/easy was it to do?

I have blank buttons on the right side of my stereo, so would be a perfect place to put one.

If anyone has, please could you give me some advice and any pics if poss?

    Carl

Pointless excercise because you'd still need to put the key into the lock a: to unlock the steering lock and b: because the transponder in the key communicates with the aerial round the lock to disable the immobiliser. The range on the key isn't enough for it to sit in your pocket even if you moved the aerial and you'd have to disable or remove the steering lock.

I guess it's down to personal choice, I don't see the point in having to put the key in, turn it and then press a button, defeats the object of having one to be honest (IMHO) but then each to their own

Am I supposed to know who Tom Chilton is? sorry no idea, is it someone on here?

That explains it, I don't watch BTCC as I have no interest in it, I'm an F1 fan. Suffice to say Tom Chilton's car wouldn't have the immobiliser or transponder in the key

I have one in one of my Renault 5 GT Turbos - still have to put the key in and turn it to position 2, but you can fire the starter motor from the button. It's protected by a relay so you still need the key.

Why? Because 25 year old carburettored turbocharged engines tend to stall when they're very hot or very cold, and it means you can restart the engine without having to cut the electrics or risk the steering lock coming on. When you're sitting around at a drag strip or track day with no airflow, you welcome the ability to restart the engine without stopping the car.

But on a road going Vectra? Not really any point I can see, unless you're going to go the whole way and replace the ignition key and immobiliser completely. Though I can't see your insurance company being happy about that.

It is more fiddly on a Vectra anyway...

There are 7 pins in the ignition switch assembly, and it depends upon which key position as to which pins are shorted to either earth or to battery live..

It is not as obvious as you would think...
I worked this out to get a CIM module working on my 1994 Cavalier to run an ignition live on a CD70 Navi and GID.

    Returning to the Vectra -
It can be done as a gimmick, but it would require faffing with the internals of the CIM module to ignition switch steel-strip links.
