They are a ****** to shift. It took me 10 mins of tapping with a rubber mallet and also some gentle taps with a hammer and a blunt chisell about 1cm away from the join working left and right. It will go eventually.

    Patience is the key!

Perseverance is all I can say and some brute force. Keep at it and it will come out. If the block is cold then it will be harder to get out. I killed mine when trying to get it out as can be seen. Make sure the block is warm, both bolts are out and spray some WD40 or Pen oil on the flange then pull backwards and try to turn / twist the valve and it should pop out.

I tried everything and in the very end resorted to a half inch wood chisel to get it out. When it did come out the aluminium on the inside of the flange and the open bore was corroded which is why it was so hard to get out. Obviously with all the banging and knocking etc I broke the coolant outflow pipe, right flange and the rear control module fell off too. So I had to spend £226 for a new valve. Just be careful and don’t go stupid on it and you should be ok.

Is it best to go with the chisel at the part in red or at the sides?
Also would I be able to lever it out where the part in yellow is.
    Thanks for your help

I tapped on all three edges. You're not trying to get the chisel in a gap but put shock waves through the metal to loosen it. Firm taps but don't go belting it!! Stop every sof often and give it a twist and wiggle.

    It can be done!!!

I also put some WD40 on the casing when I put it back in to stop the problem for getting it out in the future. I went with the wiggle and shout option!

HI, finally got it off and yes the best bit of advice is make sure the engine is warm. It took only a couple of taps and it came straight off. Thanks everyone especially Vectra forever.
