    Default strange tax credits

now this is how the story goes

the other half used to work 26 hours a week for about £12k which equated to approx £815 take home per month so obviously she was getting working tax credit and child tax credit ( she has 1 child ) to the tune of approx £275 a month and chiild benefit of £85 month

    so thats 810+275+80 = approx £1165 a month

now she has just been promoted at work and gone onto full time hours as an assistant homes manager , wages are up to £19k approx

so she tells the tax credits people about her new income and they say ok well work out your credits and inform you of what they will be for the rest of the year

so get home from work yesterday and she looks all confused
letter from tax credits there ,
so i have a look at it

they have jsut worked out her new tax credits for the rest of the year and now she gets per month

    £1200 wages
    £85 child benefit

    and wait for it ...............................

    £415 tax credits

theyve put her tax credits up !!!, couldnt believe it

god knows how they worked that one out !!!!!

Double check that with them Mark. Same happened to us a few years back, funny enough they had screwed up and a year later we had to pay it back, and they are not kind about paying it back at £5 a week either, even though it was their fault.

Do you live together, because if you do it's classed as fraud and she should be putting your income down aswell.

As a foster carer , i do not get taxed on my wages until it reaches about 25 thousand pounds , something to do with doing a service for the country , i hope soldiers , police , nurses etc get a break too .

For our own blood children , we declared my wages to the child tax people along with my other halfs for the first 2 years .

then out the blue , the child tax people rang , apparently a random selection of child tax claimants were picked to for sample assessments .

They said to my lass , " we can not find your partner through our wage / tax system " .

She said that's because he does not pay tax .

they said , but you are putting down he earns £ XX , XXX .

she said , that's us being honest .

They said , if he doesn't pay tax , it doesn't come up as an income , so from now on just put that he earns £ 1 ( one pound a year ) .

The up shot of this was , they back dated one years money of ............... £ XX , XXX .

even though i was owed 2 years on the money i had declared they could only refund one years worth .

AND ..... even though i earn a decent five figure sum of money yearly ,

next to my lasses wage , i have to claim i earn £ 1 annually as i pay NO tax ,

which then entitles us to a HIGHER rate of child benefit ,

AND we get free N.H.S. prescription cards and dentistry .

i totally agree that i may not deserve free health care and the higher rate child tax ,

But this is what my honest declaration of both our wages has brought me .

Every year we get on the phone to h.m.r.c. and repeat and repeat that i earn a good wage without tax and they say everytime , just put £ 1 down .

Why should soldiers / police / nurses etc have breaks?... sorry but I don't agree with any of it. Choices are made to enter the police or whatever. If the likes of me didn't design buildings then we'd all be up poop alley so can I have breaks and benefits too?... NO is the answer. I support myself and live by my choices. I also choose not to have kids but am required to pay for everyone elses in my taxes. People with no children should get breaks for not being a drain on the system. I should get a break also for being an employer for keeping people off the dole,.. but again no breaks form me only more taxes!!

Sorry but the system is just wrong.
