Default 2L DTI '53 Loss of Power

    Hi folks,

    I have an intermittent problem.

After my car has been running for about an hour, the spanner light comes on and I have no/little acceleration - which can be a bit embarrassing when trying to overtake in the outside lane of the motorway!!

The engine management light does not come on - pulling over to the hard shoulder and turning the engine off/on sometimes clears the problem.

I have briefly checked the hoses from the turbo for leaks.

Any ideas? - dont want to take it to the stealers!!

    Cheers

start by checking around the vac system - all the little tubes & connectors, any tiny splits will cause the spanner

As well as the small vacuum hose check you may also need to clean the boost sensor

Not sure tbh mate. I've not heard it.

I'm sure it would be fine.
Surpose you could always try electrical contact cleaner. As it's probably about the same price

to clean the maf hold the sensor at least arm length away from the spray or soak it in meths ;-)

odds on bet in a few weeks they op will need a crank shaft speed sensor, to test this theory once the car is upto running temp on your private road try hold the speed at 80 mph if the light comes on before you reach 80 ill put 50p on it being the crank shaft sensor on its way out.
