    Is There Meant To Be A Gasket On My 1.8 EGR ?

    Took It Off The Other Day Just For A Nosey..No Gasket..Surface Aint That Even Either (Flaky Crap)

    If it's the same as mine (z18xe) then there should be a thin metal plate that sits between the EGR and the engine manifold. When I took mine off to clean it, the plate was well and truly stuck to the EGR and needed prised off. New one was only a couple of quid at the dealers. I suspect it may have some form of coating on it that helps seal things.

    There should always be a gasket otherwise there is risk of exhaust gases escaping into the engine bay and therefore into the cabin.

    Gaskets shouldn't be anymore than a few quid from the dealers, plus they'll usually have them in stock too.

    i got one from a motor factors for 91p and one from the stealers for £1.83, the mf one was silver and the VX one was black. No instant gasket needed.
