    Default Thermostat manual opening...

As part of my upcoming work on the car I'm planning on changing the coolant. To drain and flush the engine properly, it is recognised that you have to remove the thermostat because when the engine is cold it blocks off the radiator. Could you fool the valve into opening purely by applying a 12v supply to it? I've done the same with the EGR valve to test it, but is the thermostat just as simple?

Someone with TIS should be able to find out I hope...

Not sure what you mean mate, thermostats are operated purely by the temp of the water and a spring. You can test it by dropping it into a pan of cold water and then heating it up. As the heat goes up the stat will open

They are easily removed for testing/flushing purposes though

As above mate its the wax in the thermo stat that controls opening.

Maybe easier to remove heater matrix pipes and flush system out that way
