Default Dammit! Oil filter housing cover needed.

Well yesterday I managed to get around to doing my first service of my new Signum. Everything went reasonable well, OK some of the jobs were a bit of a pig to do but managed everything except one thing.

After draining the oil, I went to remove the oil filter housing cover to replace the oil filter and the thing just wouldn't budge. The damn thing is only suppose to be torqued to 25Nm but this thing felt like it was welded on. For about an hour I tried to gentley persuade it to go but no luck. Eventually, I decided I'd ran out of options and just went for the brute force option.

So I grabbed a long extension bar attached it to the socket and just kept pulling - unfortunately, the nut sheared off the housing cover, leaving the housing cover still in place.

Long story short, I tried a few Vauxhall dealers today and they all told me the same thing - a new one has to come from Opel europe, it'll be almost £100 and at least 7-10 days to get here

So I left it and decided to make sure I could get the cover off just in case I had to order a whole new housing. In the end, after some delicate surgery with an angle grinder and using the biggest hammer I could find I got it free.

So now all I need is to get a new housing cover screw it on (to 25Nm unlike the last time) and fill the car with oil. Does anyone have any ideas where I could source one of these in a few days rather than the car being off the road for what could turn out to be goodness knows how long.

Oh, spec would help! It's a Signum 2.8V6T Elite (Z 28 NEL) and as far as I know it shares the housing only with other 2.8s (Vectra VXR etc) all others have either the plastic housing or an cannister style filter ewxcept the 3.2s but that one is different too.

    Anyone any ideas?

I was wondering if the Saab 2.8 was the same block. Cheers, I'll try them tomorrow.

Ah well, looks like I'm off the road for at least 7-10 days. Couldn't find one anywhere. Tried all the dealers I could think of, every breaker in the area, all the ebay listings that may have had one and all the braeakers I could find online and nothing!

I've bit the bullet and ordered it from the local stealers now and will just have to wait.

Don't supporse anyone knows if you can buy the retaining bolt for the coilpacks? I let the good lady change a few of the spark plugs (she did ask if she could help) and she managed to shear one by tightening it up too much. Getting it out should be easy enough but there's no way I'm forking out for a whole new coilpack when all it needs is the bolt.

Woo-hoo! My cover is sitting in Arnold Clark Glasgow ready to collect - can't believe they didn't call me to let me know. When I ordered parts from Peter's in Motherwell, they sent me a text the minute they came into stock.

Anyway, enough moaning, off to get my part and get the Siggy back on the road. It was quicker than expected so I can't complain really.
