Default What the ferk is this?

Just had a call from my local stealers, as I had to put the car in for an engine light sysmbol showing on the dash and they say its a swirler valve. What is this for?

I was showing a slight drop in the fuel consumption but other than that the car seemed to go ok. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Seems to be just diesels Alex. A 2.2 and 4 x 1.9 that I can see so far.

Symptoms are the EML coming on, and a lack of oomph at certain rev ranges - or justoverall.

I take it that with the EML light coming on it's fairly easy for the stealer to diagnose the problem as it will log a fault code. Ta!

    Its a 2.2 Direct Petrol

The symptoms were as I said a increase in the consumption from an average of 33-34 around the doors dropping to 28mpg. Also a slight hesitation when pulling away. Some one else driving the car would not notice it perhaps. Another area is a slight lack of power, compared to what it should be like, but not a massive amount, but certainley noticeable to me.

When I asked if this was a common problem I got the " don't see this problem much" answer, but after reading previous posts on the link that Duncan had sent me, I think there is a problem with this swirl valve.

Any how it goes back in on Monday as "suprise suprise" they do not have one in stock. So I will have to ration my trips with it. Thanks for all the replies to date guys.

Mine's in next Tuesday to have it rectified. It does seem to be a common fault.

The power drop in mine is very noticable, not torque but bhp, so if you drive it locally not much difference, but open it up & it feels sluggish.

Now you mention it the car seems a bit thirstier than normal as well.

I was running a CR1, but strangely now if I put it on there is hardly any difference - slightly more torque low down but no difference at all higher up the revs. When I first put it on 12 months ago the difference was shocking, the car was incredibly savage & responsive right through the revs.

I'm even wondering if the CR1 is faulty, but think it's more likely to be the car due to the fault the dealer found.

I'll get the car sorted first then worry about the box after.
