I have tried a few upgraded bulbs but went HID and last winter was just so much better than before. I also had the beam checked and made sure I didn't dazzle myself when I did a drive by from my wifes car but the light quality is just awesome.

They are a very easy kit to fit the hardest part is drilling a hole in the plastic cap, which itself is a very simple task, the rest is simply plug'n'play

The problem is as Ian T said, the beam pattern is simply way too low. Fitting brighter lights (eg HID) really isn't addressing the actual problem, just relying on the extra light that's scattered by the lens to illuminate the area outside the defined projector pattern.

Raising the headlight aim so it's just on the legal limit (then making sure the headlight aim switch on the dashboard is dropped a little for the MOT) is about the best you can do.

As Grumpy mentioned HIDs are infact ilegal if not self leveling or you dont have headlight washers

What twaddle. The beam pattern will be the same regardless whether it's a halogen bulb, or HID bulb. There will be no extra beam scatter from a HID bulb if used in headlights that have projector lenses.

Basicaly park in front of a wall with your lights on and the leveler at its highest. mark where your beam level is on the wall. Move your lights to possion 2 then adjust your lights so they are back at the original level. This will now mean your level 1 is higher. Hope this makes sense. Or most garages will adjust lights for free. So just ask them to set it to the highest legal level

No HID's won't affect beam pattern, but most people can't be bothered with the potential hassle of MOT's next year. Yes they pass just now, but just now isn't under the new, tighter rules.

    Here it is.

Says for preface lift lights, but I can vouch that it also works for facelift lights as well. I also used the same method on an Astra-G that had the lights set too low.
