    Default A/C Compressor

My air con is not working. Plenty of gas in the system (have had it pressure checked) but the compressor is not cutting in properly I think.

With the car on fast idle (maybe 1000rpm) and I press the AC on, the revs climb slightly but no cold air.

Have checked the fuses and changed the one for the AC (as found in the book) but still nothing.

Is the compressor a servicable part or replacement part? And what is involved in changing it (I know the refrigerant gas has to be contained as venting to atmosphere is illegal?) but how hard is it to change or is there another fuse / relay that controls it?

Getting annoyed with surging heat from the heaters on full cold in this weather.

    As above!

Had my aircon serviced and regassed yesterday after it wasn't working when I bought it.

Was lovely and cold! This morning its back to warm air! The revs go up and I can hear the compressor / motor kick in when no radio is on.

Sounds like the electromagnetic clutch on the compressor may have burnt out. If you have a multi meter you can take the plug off the front of the compressor. When the button on the dash is pressed 12v should be there to energise the magnet

Think I did that, maybe should have mentioned it!

How easy / hard is the compressor to change?

Why change the whole compressor? You can just change the clutch on it's own
