    Default Whats this light?

I'm presuming its the engine management light, an amber engine symbol on the r/h side of dash. No difference in engine performance, oil and coolant levels are ok. I havent got a code reader so would have to pay someone to check it out. Is there anything else obvious i should check first?

Also seen code readers on ebay for about £30, they do the job or are they tat??

    Thanks

    2003 1.8 LS btw.

If I am correct the "engine symbol" is when there is something wrong with the emissions.

Right, just checked the manual and it is the exhaust gases light - fault in emission control system. permitted emission limits may be exceeded.

I also done the pedal test and i think i got two codes.

10 flashes normal pause then 1 flash then normal pause then 7 flashes normal pause then 10 flashes then a longer pause then 10 flashes normal pause then 1 flash normal pause then one flash normal pause then 10 flashes. ( 10_1_7_10_____ 10_1_1_10 ). can any one help or give link to relevant codes list? thanks

are the codes P0170 and P0110??

P0110 - Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor resistance changes in response to the intake air temperature. The sensor resistance decreases as the surrounding air temperature increases. This provides a signal to the PCM, indicating the temperature of the incoming air charge.

The following symptoms can be caused by a faulty IAT sensor due to loose connections, bad grounds, high resistance in the circuit, or opens in the circuit.

    P0170 - Fuel Trim Bank 1

    Possible Causes
    - Intake air leaks
    - Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
    - Injectors may be faulty
    - Exhaust gas leaks
    - Incorrect fuel pressure
    - Lack of fuel
    - Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
    - Incorrect PCV hose connection

So the answer is YES, they can be related. Possible Causes of P0170 - Intake air leaks also if there is a leak, this may also mean that is might be affecting P0110 as it can't give correct readings

    But hey, I'm no guru

maybe not guru but definetly a star just realised that it had a cam belt and kit fitted last week, now wondering if all intake hoses/pipes etc are back in place correctly?????

Yeah you might wanna check all connections again because these sensors are very very sensitive and this can be a pain sometimes but on the otherhand can be very useful
