Since both front tyres are down to 3mm tread and were advisories on MOT I need to get them changed so any recommendations on 215/50/17... Budget is no more than £150 per tyre...

Change to the 225/45/17 size as they're a more popular size, and thus cheaper.
Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, btw. Camskill seem to be the cheapest I found. Then pay a local tyre fitter some beer money to fit.
You can indeed. I ran this set up for approx 18 months while waiting for my NCT5's to finally wear out. I refused to fit them to the front to help them on their way that bit quicker as I liked to be able to steer round corners.
As long as the axle has the same sized tyres on it's fine.
Neo Bro's..Neuton tyres..im very impressed. Quite,grippy and
cheap.. these tyres are that good that after I bought a pair for the front I bought a set for the rears within days of having the front fitted.
I rate the uniroyal very highly.
Can't go wrong with the Neuton's mate from Neo Bros rate them very highly as do a lot of members on here and about £60 a corner but you will need to have them fitted and balanced but they are excellent
Another vote for the Neuton's a great tyre!
Cheers guys... neuton's ordered...
