Default Fog light fix! result! now temp guage thinks im in the sahara!

just thought i would share my 2 hours work to fix my dodgy fog lamp. for months now it has been coming up check left fog lamp. i knew it was not the bulb but another problem. got to the point where i canceled off the error and it came up straight away was driving the wife mad. so jacked up the car and commenced work.

must have had the bulb in and out 20 times with no joy. then realised there was a plug in the lamp that unpluged pulled it out and got a mouthfull of manky smelly vile tasting wet crud! not impressed but thought this was it problem solved! cleaned it up put it back where it goes put my tools away let the car down and yep didnt work!

put the car back up followed the wireing and found a big multi plug behind the bottom grill. pulled it apart and bingo all green and corroded. cleaned it up but ran out of wd. so done my best and all went well foglamp fired up.

so went to get my daughter from her grans nd just realised my temp guage was reading 48C now i know the weather has been good but not that good!

so need to check the plug out again in the morning as i assume the extra wires in it are for the outside temp. morral of the story check everything you fiddled about with! or you might be doing it again

It's likely you have just disturbed the outside air temp sensor which sits in the lower grille, mine was knocked out of place whilst in for the dmf, found it hanging next to the rad picking up the heat from there lol...

its attached to the right hand side of the bottom grill if your looking at the car. i can only assume ive not cleaned it out properly hence the dodgy reading now.

Ah not my problem then as my sensor is connected and in the right place on the grill. I also replaced it with a new one to no avail.

i assumed that after fiddleing round with that plug "not cleaning it properly" have done the equivelant of altering the resistance hence a dodgy reading. where does the sensor plug in then?
