Default My current list of faults...

Anyone offer any possible causes for any of these (2.2dti sri):

    • Banging from the back end (not upper control arms).
A solid knocking/banging when going over uneven road surfaces but is not caused by one particular wheel going over a bump.

    • Metallic grind when pulling away.
Doesn't happen all the time, just when the engines cold and only for the first 2-3 times you pull away.

    • Slight whine/grind when pulling away in or near full lock.

    • Front suspension creaking
Only really notice it when going on or off the driveway. Slight creak and clunk

The banging going over a speed bump could be the spring rising out of the damper then dropping back down. Do you have after market springs on standard dampers?

Other things could be wheel bearings.

the springs on the rear dont sit on the damper they sit on the lower wishbone

    Cheers,

The suspension is all standard SRI lowered suspension.

Would I be able to tell just by looking at the shock if its knackered? And is it one of those really annoying parts that needs to be changed in pairs?

Hi I recently purchased a 2007 estsate SRI 1.9CDTI 150hp and because of various noises from the front and rear I have ended up changing all four springs as three we broken. The front suspension leg shocks, swivel joints, Top mounts and drop links on the front. Much better now. The knock from the rear was a broken spring on the OSR and I actually heard the NSR go when I was driving. The bit of broken spring was banging on the bottom mount. The front broken spring was not noticable as it had broken inside the lower plastic sleeve so it was not obvious on the visual inspection. Apparently these issues are well known.

I have the same issue mate and only started happening when i lowered the car, i think the culprit on mine is here

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136737

I haven't changed it yet as apparently there is a "opel vauxhall bush removing kit" which i cant seem to locate and makes the job 20 mins per side

EDIT: This is the kit but i dont fancy forking out £50 for something i may use only once

I've been under there poking around and think you may have found the source of my banging! That kit is for the vectra B so I wouldn't know if it would be any use anyway?.

    • Front suspension creaking
Only really notice it when going on or off the driveway. Slight creak and clunk

Could be top strut bearings. Sorted mine this way. Easy enough to do.
