    Default EGR Valve question

Whilst finding that my boost pipe had split and I was doing a temp fix, I thought i'd see how hard/easy it was to take the EGR valve off and give it a clean.

As I expected it was full of crud but the solenoid area was nice and clean and was moving freely. So my question is do I drill a 3mm hole on top of the valve so I can spray WD40 in it to keep it moving freely or just leave it??

I run out of carb cleaner so need to take it back off again to finish cleaning, but will order the fiat gasket plates and put them on after the clean. Even with the temp fix on the boost pipe and a semi clean EGR valve the car drives much better, pulls away better than it ever did in the year that i've had it, but also now my EML is on, i'm guessing it's because I took the EGR off but i never started the car while it was off shouldn't it go out or will i now have to get a tech 2 connected to clear all the faults. Maybe the EGR valve is faulty???

never had any smoke come out of the car. I've always had lag on acceleration and it got worse last week, so checked the boost hose to find it has a big split, so took the EGR valve off as well to see how dirty it was. Car has improved a lot but now i have the exhaust gases warning light.

you might not get much smoke on the estate as the DPF will filter that out, but beware of it getting clogged up

Hi, Just replaced my EGR and cleaned the boost sensor as well as replacing the vacuum pipes - runs a lot better but still a flat spot / stutter when accerating in first and second gear - I now want to try the Fiat gaskets - do you have any further info and where do I get them
also do I need 2 or will one do the job, Thanks

A valve which fails to open due to solenoid failure (open circuit) will put the spanner light on. If the soleniod physically doesn't work - ie move with an electrical signal or the valve is blanked it will put on the emissions light.
