Default DTI engines life span ?

I'm looking at buying an additional motor, an 02 Fronty with a 2.2 dti engine, I assume its a similar lump to whats in Veccies.. Its supposedly got a full history, but the mileage is scary, its 146k on the original engine.. If it was petrol on that mileage I know I just wouldnt even consider it, but is 146k a lot for a diesel, or nothing to be too concerned about?

Any engine should be able to reach 150K miles
However, after that expect any of the major components to fail
Equally, by this stage service record isn't really much help unless all the receipts are included

There isn't really much between petrol and diesel engine longevity any more
The petrol is more likely to suffer head gasket failure earlier
As diesel is a lubricant the internal components should last longer, plus there are fewer of them, but due to the nature of compression combustion the failure is usually more terminal

At 146K miles place an offer based on the lower end of valuation and haggle hard

My personal opinion of vehicles over 150K miles is that they will be cheap to buy but can cost more over the long term, also not knowing if and when it will fail, or what the next major bill will be
It can be just as cheap to buy something low mileage, you know where you stand with it
My own car is fast reaching this stage, replacing both front springs and shock absorbers alone will buy me 10% of a new Insignia

146k on the original engine wouldn't worry me...it's the other bits that do.

Probably the most reliable engine from the vectra range. Still, 1.9cdti is a lot nicer to drive IMO.

400k can be acheived if the oil and filter is changed regular for good oil.

Taxi's in europe can do this but you have to spend money thats something tight brits don't like to do and extend the service life, of course then it packs in.
