    Default Electric estate boot issue

    Hi all
Have a issue with my electric estate boot, push the button and the boot opens fine, then if I push the button to close it, it closes just under half way and then stops.. As if something was in the way.. Seems to me as if there is an issue with the electric strut..
    Are they servicable?..
How do I remove the electric strut..??
Does the strut just pull off the ball joints, or do i need a special tool to remove it??

Thanks for any help you can give

    Steve

Happens every so often with mine too. Push it manually past the point it sticks, then let it open again and try and close it again. Usually clears it and it starts working normally again.

if it keeps doing that.. it can be the "potentiometer" that is beside the strut is replaceable..

    Hi All..

    Thanks for the replies...
Had a better look when I got home...
I have tried pushing the tailgate past the point that it stops a few times and it is still stopping..

however what I have noticed it that when i do push it the is a loudish click/noise from the right hand strut (drivers side, the power one) at the point of where it is stopping..

does the strut have gas in it?
    or
    is it a geared strut?...

The 'wire' that goes to the strut from the motor...
    what is inside it?
how does it physically close the strut?

how do I remove the strut from the car? does it 'pop' off the ball joints? or do I need a tool to do it?

    sorry for all the questions
    Steve

Its a gasstrut, the wire attached to it, pulls it shut, its attached to the motor that in the right hand cubbyhole of the boot.

No special tools, maby a screwdriver to remove the clips. note when you remove the strut from the pivotball the tailgate can keep it self open.

and what you cant see, inside the strut and the motor theres a little plastic clips that slides forwards and backwards, and that desides if the motor will close or not. (i can NOT recommend taking the motor appart.. i havnt been abel to put mine properly together again)

There is a small pin you have to take out first .. Use a small screwdriver. Under the ball you can see the pin is going round the ball and then up beside the ball.. You just pull the pin out from round the ball and the pin can be pulled out... It´s the same at both ends. Then you can gently pull the strut of the ball

Hope it makes any sense.. Not easy to explain..
