It's in the haynes manual regarding valve clearances, Says theres a shim with clearances stamped on them and then you use a micrometer if shims have worn you can get new ones then alot of adding and substracting to workout getting correct shim, Something along them lines i just turned the page lol

If needed pm me your email addy and i'll try and scan the page and email it you

All ne 1.9 @ 30 are Hydraulic but are also shimmed. If they are noise then you will have to get ne shims there must be a engine reconditioner that my do a swap sysrem I don't know but its worth a look and also look at new shim prices wten you have the correct clearances.

    Hi

Yes I have done this job many times on other shimmed heads.

Sometimes you can swap them around but usually you need approx 4-5 new ones.

I just need the clearances if some ones got a Haynes manual could you post them please.

    Inlet..........

    Exhaust..........

    Many thanks.

i have no idea on the data but you can do them with only takeing the rocker cover off use a pry bar to push the valve down and then pull the shim out ..much like tha old isuzu stuff ...

The haynes states z19dt valve clearances for inlet and outlet are 0.30 to 0.40mm and specify vx special tool En-46797 and En-46799 or equivelant if adjustment is needed, Hope this helps and below is how you work out what shim is required.

Add the measured clearance of the valve to the original shim then substract the specified valve clearance from this figure. This gives you the thickness of the shim required: For Example Below

    measured valve clearance 0.45mm
plus thickness of the original shim 2.70mm
    equals 3.15mm
    minus clearance required 0.35mm
    thickness of shim required 2.80mm

    Hi

    Thanks for the info tommytonguedj

    In : 0.30-0.40
    Ex: 0.30-0.40

I have a few of these shims , you can bet none of them will be the right size though

As for the tools...... my special screwdriver (long wide bladed one) and long nose pliers
have always been my choice of weapon doing this job (sometimes my telescopic magnet also for stubborn shims)

    Cheers
