Acceleration help please

Hi guys, when starting my car the revs go up and down, and also when accelerating, if i try floor it in first, the revs just drop and die, then slowly pick back up.

Any ideas please ? the car is just a bog standard 1.8 ls

I am thinking maybe it just needs a service with new plugs etc... or could it be air flow meter ?

If it's been a while or you don't know when it was last done a service will only do it good. Flat spots are fairly common on the 1.8s, a new air filter and the air box mod worked quite well for soothing them out for me.
