Exclamation Never, EVER, trust the stock jack!

Was jacking up the car using the stock jack, ready to put it on axle stands of course, and this happened!

Need-less to say, you should never trust this and get underneath your car without axle stands.

Whilst that's pretty crap, in fairness those jacks are supposed to be for emergency use only at the side of the road and aren't designed for regular use for maintenance etc

I had the same thing happen to me last year , the jack twisted and partially collapsed .
Could not wind it up or down so just had to drive off with the jack in place .
Had a look on line for a replacement and found one at mega vaux for £12 when delivered turned out to be from a saab 9-3 exactly same design even says on it for vx vectra only difference made from much thicker steel and much better made .

get a decent jack for home maintenance, use this jack for roadside wheel changes only. Also a sensible idea to place the spare wheel under the car while the punctured wheel is removed, and then swap as you put the spare back on.

erm in fairness...the lad hasnt said if it was used at the side of the road or for maintainance so the jumping of the gun is a bit premature..

Wasn't having a pop at him anyway. Although in fairness he does say "ready to put up on axle stands", unless he carries axle stands around with him all the time, I doubt it was at the side of the road

I have always carried a trolley jack in my car. The first thing I dump when I get a new car is the spacesaver and the Jack
