SAFE is what it displays when it wants the radio code.

He's right though - you need to put in the code now you've refitted the original radio for it to work.

You'll probably have the code somewhere - either in the handbook, service record, on a little Vauxhall card...

Here you go - from the instruction book:

    Switch on the ignition.
Switch off the radio with push button (push the volume knob).
Press the AS button and hold down.
Switch on radio and hold AS control down until confirmation tone is heard.
"CODE" appears in the display, after 3 seconds the number of remaining attempts to enter the CODE numbers appears , e.g. "10---.

Enter CODE number (on car passcard or radio passcard) using the preset controls 1,2,3 and 4

    Example: the CODE number is 0 3 6 5
    Preset controls display (number pad)
    Press control 1 once 0 - - -
    Press control 2 four times 0 3 - -
    Press control 3 seven times 0 3 6 -
    Press control 4 six times 0 3 6 5
Confirm CODE number: if the correct CODE number can be rear from the display, press the AS control until a confirmation tone sounds.

if its showing "display safe" then its the display that needs pairing to the HU

if the radio needed pairing it would show "radio safe"

This code procedure is only for half can bus cars that have stereos such as the CCR2006.

Full canbus cars (that have CD30, CD70, etc) don't require the code to be entered after a power interuption. They are coded to the display unit ad require Tech2 or Opcom to marry together or divorced.
