    Default Tyre Pressure Sensor

Have recently been getting a 'check tyre pressure' warning on the wifes 2003 Vectra 2.2i, rear drivers side wheel. The tyres are standard 16inch on alloys.

It states that the tyre pressure is at approx 26.1 psi, when started from cold, but gradually rises as the tyre heats, until it goes off.

I have checked the pressure in the tyre and it was at 38 psi ??

I checked the pressure in the other rear wheel and it was at 37psi ?

Is it likely that the sensor is knackered or something else ?

    Any help appreciated

    thanks

Probably the sensor on it's way out. Apparently they have approximately 8 years lifespan before you're supposed to replace them and you're coming up bang on that now.

I nearly replaced all mine recently when I put new wheels and tyres on, but when told that decided to leave them as I have a year and a half of "official" life span left on mine and they seem fine.

I take it the tyre has to be removed from the rim to fit the sensor ?

Yes, the sensor has the valve on it, it sits in place of the normal tyre valve.

Depending what tyre machine it may not need to be fully removed.

We just break the bead on the outer face and use the rolling wheel to push the tyre down a bit so you can replace it.

just wondering when they started fitting these and if they are something an unskilled tyre monkey may just remove and throw away when changing a valve with a new tyre???
my car has the system and that it flashed up lastyear when i had a puncture.....but it didnt show my tyres were all a bit soft after i used an inflator with a dodgey valve and were all around 30psi instead of 35 as they should be. had all 4 tyres replaced since the puncture and am now a little concerned..
